Before my first visit to Elan, I wasn't dead set on the
whole "going natural" thing, but I decided to take a chance.
At that time I had been getting relaxers every 4-5 weeks for over
15 years. Some of my other friends and classmates had gone natural
but I thought that I was the last person who would be able to do
such a thing since my dad is Nigerian. I have very course, coily,
thick hair. However, I figured a couple of visits couldn't hurt
just to see what she was about.
What prompted me to go ahead and make my first appointment with
Elan was the
fact that I was tired of having to dedicate my entire Saturday or
Sunday to
my hair appointment. I am a busy student and going to the hair salon
usually took 4 to 6 hours of my day. Many times I found myself having
to
clear my schedule to make a hair appointment. This was getting old.
My very first visit with Elan was great. I was in and out
within 2 hours! This had never happened to me in the past-I
was so surprised. Also, when I got there, I didn't have to wait
30+ minutes while she finished up a previous client's hair in order
to start on mine. This is also a pet peeve of mine that I have been
subjected to in the past with previous hair stylists. During our
session, I asked her about going natural and expressed some of my
concerns to her. She was able to explain the process of transitioning
to me very clearly and assured me that this could be a possibility
if I chose. Apparently there were so many benefits to being natural
that I had never known about, simply because I wasn't educated about
it. I had assumed that people with only a certain hair type could
do it. However, it has been about 8 months since my last
relaxer, and my hair has never felt better. I have even
gotten compliments from some of my friends and family members!
Of course, I decided to keep seeing her after that first visit because
the service was great, she shows a high level of professionalism,
and she cares about the health of your hair. Another thing
that really impressed me about Elan is that she called me after
my first visit to see how my hair was holding up. This
made me feel really comfortable with her because it showed me that
she actually cared about my hair. In the past, I had never had a
stylist call me after I have seen them to check on my hair. So then
I thought that this is maybe something that she does with first
time clients, but she continued to call and check up on me even
after my subsequent appointments. My experience with her has been
great and I have no complaints. I would definitely recommend
Elan as a stylist for people who are seeking healthy hair from someone
who is knowledgeable about hair care and is interested in the health
of your hair.
